Game Site INTERFERENCE . . . . by a spectator!
Kindly note
that if a situation arises where you have a spectator interfere with your game for any reason the following procedure should
be taken:
Immediately
stop the contest and summon the site management supervisor. Have both teams go to their respective benches. If
a supervisor is not immediately accessible then have the public address announcer at the table summon site security.
LET THE SITE MANAGEMENT SECURITY HANDLE THE SITUATION. We are NOT the keystone cops.
Although the
fans at times blame us, as officials, for all that is disagreeable, it is NOT our responsibility for fan misbehavior
- Rule 2, Section 8-1. As officials we do have the authority, Rule 2-5-4, to
forfeit a game. However, use the rules and authority within these rules to your advantage and NOT to intimidate.
Should you believe that your safety is
at risk you should communicate that to the site security personnel as well as the local police if they have arrived on the
scene. There are LAWS on the books for fan misbehavior at athletic contests. Let the security personnel do their job. DO
NOT make the situation worse then it may be.
